New Parliament house of India

India's new Parliament House was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28, 2023. The new building is a four-story modern structure built at a cost of 862 crore rupees ($110million USD) and has a total of 1,272 seats in two chambers, nearly 500 more than the old building.  The new building has at least three times as much space to accommodate new lawmakers and is equipped with modern technology. The announcement of the inauguration of the new Parliament House has generated considerable excitement among the public, and it is expected to pave the way for empowering the poor and marginalized.

2) Features and Design The Parliament House has 3 entrances, named- Gyan Dwar, Shakti Dwar, and Karma Dwar. The new building will also house a Chola era 'Sengol', a sceptre gifted to the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on the eve of the Indian Independance.

4)HOW IS THE NEW PARLIAMENT BUILDING DIFFERENT FROM THE OLD ONE
The new Parliament building is being built alongside the old Parliament and will have a built-up area of about 65,000 square metres.

The triangular shape of the new Parliament building ensures optimal utilisation of space.

Banyan tree in the courtyard 
The Central lounge is being created to complement the open courtyard, which will have the national tree, the Banyan tree.

Library experience 
Members of Parliament can efficiently gather information from archived material at the library..


Revamped Sansad BhavanAccording to the government, the new Sansad Bhavan at the newly constructed Parliament will contribute towards economic revitalisation across the entire construction value chain. It would also help generate employment opportunities for skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workers.


Sophisticated audio-visual systems The new building will have large committee rooms, with the latest audio-visual systems. The functional and purpose-designed spaces of the new Parliament building will facilitate and deliver higher efficiency.
